Commentary:
Dancing veggies and skateboarding bananas? This "totally cool" website has won numerous awards, presumably for its success in educating kids, parents, and teachers about why fruits and vegetables are so good for you. The "Reference Center" features an encyclopedia that covers the history, growing season, and nutrient content of a variety of fruits and vegetables. This section also lists good sources of vitamins A and C, folate, and fiber.

Teachers can download lesson plans aimed at third and fourth grade students. The "Kids" section includes games, cartoon characters, and lots of healthful recipes that kids can make. (The Shockwave plug-in that is needed to do the puzzles can be downloaded by following a link at the site.) There is a lot to see and do here. Dole's 5-A-Day is an entertaining and informative site that could make a faithful fruit-and-vegetable-eater out of anyone.
